Economics at A Level

Economics follows the AQA syllabus at A Level and is a popular subject with 22 students in Year 12 and 14 students in Year 13.   At Aylesford, Economics is a contemporary subject where students are encouraged to think critically about issues and make informed decisions.  The problems faced by individuals, firms and governments are considered in conjunction with the ways they can be solved.

Microeconomic topics such as individual decision making, the importance of markets and behavioural economics, together with the distribution of income and wealth are investigated.  Macroeconomic themes such as development economics, financial economics and monetary policy are explored.

Numeracy accounts for 20% of the marks at A2 so skills in calculations as well as analysing interpreting data are developed.  When evaluating arguments quantitative and qualitative evidence is required.  Students are encouraged to have knowledge of current and recent events so they can apply economic models, as a way of building arguments effectively.

Independent learning skills are developed and we have high expectation of work produced Economics students.   Economics is part of the Department of Business Information Technology and Economics department and is well resourced with access to ICT facilities.
