Aylesford School Warwick is a forward thinking and exciting educational environment. We pride ourselves on our commitment to our students and our community.
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic teacher into the role of Head of History from September 2022. The successful candidate will join an experienced and well-established department, leading a team of four specialist history teachers. We are looking for someone who is passionate about their subject and determined to impart knowledge, skills and understanding to all our young people, whilst exciting and engaging them in their learning.
At Key Stage 3 students are organised into mixed ability groups. Students have 5 lessons of History over a fortnight in year 7, and 4 lessons of History a fortnight in years 8 and 9. Learning is supported by a variety of resources including textbooks, centrally used source material and shared lessons.
At Key Stage 4 students remain in mixed ability groups. There is always a big uptake for History at GCSE and as a result there are currently 5 History groups in both Year 10 and 11. GCSE students follow the AQA GCSE course and study the following topics:
- Germany, 1890 – 1945: Democracy and Dictatorship
- Conflict and tension: The First World War 1894-1918
- Britain: Health and the People: c.1000 – present day
- Elizabethan England c.1568-1603
At Key Stage 5 students study the AQA course covering The Tudors: England 1485-1603, and Democracy and Nazism: Germany 1918-1945. For the NEA they focus on Civil Rights in America. Students have 8 lessons a fortnight and the teaching is split between 2 teachers so that students can have a specialist for each side of the course. At A Level each student is issued with their own copy of the core textbooks so that they can continue their learning at home. We also encourage lots of extended learning around the topics to further broaden their knowledge.
There is a wealth of resources available that the History department share, we are very good at collaborating and sharing resources to ensure consistency across the department.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about their subject and determined to impart knowledge, skills and understanding to all our young people, whilst exciting and engaging them in their learning.
