Aylesford School is proud to announce plans for a new sports scholarship in honour of former student and England footballer Jess Carter.
Jess, who attended Aylesford during Years 10 and 11, has gone on to achieve incredible success on the world stage, most recently becoming a two-time European champion with the England Lionesses following their historic win over Spain.
To recognise her achievements and inspire future generations, the school is working closely with Jess’s family to establish a scholarship that will support promising young athletes. The programme is expected to launch in September and aims to help students pursue their sporting ambitions by removing financial barriers.
Headteacher, Peter Gilbride said:
“We’re incredibly proud of Jess and everything she has accomplished. Her story is an inspiration to our students, and we want to ensure others have the same opportunities to chase their dreams. This scholarship is about celebrating success and investing in the future.”
Jess’s former PE teacher and current Head of PE, Kirsten McMurray, recalled her as a “hugely talented” student with natural leadership qualities and a love for sport:
“She was a lovely, lovely student who excelled in everything athletic. Interestingly, she played every position at school — except defence!”
Jess’s journey from Aylesford School to the national stage serves as a powerful reminder of what determination, talent, and support can achieve. We look forward to launching the scholarship and continuing her legacy of sporting excellence.
