Pegasus Class
Welcome to Year 2
Hi, my name is Mrs Owen and I will be Pegasus Class teacher. On a Thursday morning Mrs Hird will be teaching the children, which I know they will be excited about. Throughout this year we aim to develop the children’s increasing independence and personal responsibility at Aylesford, and I know that we will see them grow so quickly.
Autumn Term
Land Ahoy!
In Pegasus this term our topic is ‘Land Ahoy!’ Over the term we will take a cross curricular approach involving English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, Music, DT and Computing. In literacy we will focus on high quality key texts, beginning with ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers. The children will write stories, recipes, recounts, letters and poems.
Reading
Reading at home as well as in school is very important for children to develop and progress. In Year 2, they should be exposed to a variety of different texts from narrative stories to non-fiction and poetry. Children should be able to answer prediction questions and explain what they have read. It is important for them to also be able to answer questions about the characters and use evidence from the text to support their answers clearly.
Once you have listened to your child read, please sign their Reading Record. Once children have read three or more times a week, they will two synergy points. The children will change their reading books on a Monday and library books every Friday.
Spelling
This is a platform for children to practise their weekly spellings on. Each week, children will learn a new spelling rule and practise their spellings in school. They will then be set an assignment to support this and can complete activities on Spelling Shed to enhance their learning at home.
