Spring Term
Paws and Claws
This term, our Science based topic is ‘Paws and Claws' where we will be learning to identify and name a variety of animals from pets at home to animals in the zoo! We will explore how to care for them, their habitats, diet and how to classify them. As always, we will be covering this across the curriculum and the children have planned some creative and exciting ways to learn about it.
Our Literacy key text is: Where the Wild Things are by Maurice Sendak:
We will be predicting what we think the story is about and developing our inference skills by asking and answering lots of questions about the story. We will then sequence it and retell it showcasing our amazing writing skills. Finally, we will create some character descriptions of the wondeful beasts we encounter in the story!
Reading
Reading is very important for children to enhance their reading skills. They are: exposed to new vocabulary that they can apply in their learning, as well as their speech and language; able to develop and apply their inference skills; and discuss and explain different types of books.
Once you have listened to your child read, please sign their Reading Record.
Once children have read three or more times a week, they will recieve a star sticker in their record.
The children will have Maths homework each week set in their Maths Practise Journals.
We then ask if children can spend 10 minutes a week on NumBots building their mathematical fluency.
Homework should be completed to the same high standards that we expect of work done during school time and it should be handed in on time. Your child should be spending about 30 minutes on each piece of work. Homework is due in every Monday.
The children will also receive Spelling Shed log in this term and will be set an assignement each Wednesday to practise a new spelling rule.
In Summer Term 1 there will be no Spelling Shed homework. We expect the children to work through their Phonics Screening practice pack to support the Phonics Screening Assessment that will take place week beginning Monday 9th June.
